History

The International Council of Malaysian Scholars and Associates (ICMS) and the UK Chapter was officially founded on the 28th of November 2010 at St. Hilda’s College, Oxford by a group of Malaysian students based in the United Kingdom who were driven by the idea of a global network of aspiring Malaysians. The 1st Council of ICMS painstakingly gathered inspiring and passionate Malaysians while having an unshakable conviction that the global network would be something of high significance and value to Malaysian youth.

AlumNite 2.0: A Tale of Revival

ICMS-Maybank Roundtable 2015

Event Description & Aim

In the third instalment of ICMS-Maybank Roundtable, ICMS and Maybank aimed to give the participants an overall view of Maybank as an organisation. Maybank’s business side was focused on as well as some of the function divisions that make up Maybank internally.

The first half of the roundtable revolved around discussing what Maybank does in the said group and the many subdivisions that are in it. A Maybank representative joined each group to contribute to the discussions and this was moderated by one of the facilitators.

ICMS-TalentCorp Idea Lab 2015

Event Description

The New Programme is a project in collaboration with TalentCorp which aims to use gamification to create an online platform which is able to track and incentivize student activities outside their studies. Idea Lab is the first phase of the New Programme where participants were provided with the opportunity to design the application from scratch and brainstorm on the feasibility and sustainability of different ideas. Through Idea Lab, creativity and thinking out of the box were very much encouraged, while also incorporating elements of fun so that participants could remain interested and engaged.

ICMS-Maybank Roundtable 2014

Event Description

The ICMS-Maybank Roundtable 2014 revolved around Islamic banking and Private Wealth Management. This was to cater to growing interest in Islamic banking, with even London declaring its intentions to become a leader in this field. As South East Asia becomes more affluent, banks are rushing to provide private banking services in the region. The format was a dialogue session first between Maybank personnel and students before students got a chance to wow Maybank with a presentation competition.

Aim

To enable the sharing of Maybank’s wealth of knowledge and experience to stimulate discussion of key topics amongst Malaysia’s future leaders.

reTH!NK 2012: Changing Perspectives

Event Description & Aim

reTH!NK 2012: Changing Perspectives was a competition-based symposium organised by the ICMS, sponsored by PwC and hosted by ICAEW. Analogous to the Olympics, the symposium, themed “The 2012 Olympics: Thinking Beyond The Games“, acted as a platform for students to engage in intellectual discourse and express their opinion or ideas in a thought-provoking and constructive manner with like-minded peers.

Drawing its inspiration from TEDx talks, reTH!NK 2012 placed emphasis on originality of ideas and creativity in the presentation of those ideas. Participants might talk about anything relating to the theme from various perspective like (but not limited to) social impact, economic effects, environmental consequences or even technological innovations to solve lingering problems of the Olympics. This freedom of ideas was what pushed conventional boundaries and changes perspectives.

2011

The KPMG-ICMS Industry Roundtable 2011

The inaugural partnership with KPMG focused on ‘Sustainability’, with reference to the industry paper “Measuring Up: Improving Sustainability in Consumer Markets.” The KPMG-ICMS Industry Roundtable 2011 was held on the 8th of September 2011 at KPMG Tower. A total of 36 students were present for the Roundtable, including the winners of the MPPC 2011. Speakers of the Senior Management of KPMG attended the discussion and Q&A session. Four Senior Partners were present.

The Citi-ICMS Industry Roundtable 2011

The US Debt Ceiling Crisis – Correcting Global Imbalances The inaugural partnership with Citibank focuses on ‘The U.S. Debt Ceiling Crisis’. The Citi-ICMS Industry Roundtable 2011 was held on the 9th of September 2011 at Citibank Tower. A total of 36 students were present for the Roundtable, including the winners of the MPPC 2011 and Students from Cambridge, Princeton, Stanford and the LSE. Speakers of the Senior Management of Citibank attended the discussion and the Q&A session.
