Hong Kong Case Competition (HKCC) 2014

Event Itinerary

Date: 12th April 2014

Venue: The University of Hong Kong

Event Description

Hong Kong Case Competition (HKCC) 2014 was the first flagship event organised by ICMS Hong Kong which allowed Malaysian students pursuing different majors in Hong Kong universities to experience the challenges and complexities associated with corporations in various industries.

HKCC aimed to provide a platform for participants to develop a global mindset and explore the global marketplace from a diverse perspective while enhancing their analytical competencies, problem-solving abilities and presentation skills. 8 teams from 3 different Hong Kong universities were selected to the competition after careful screening.

Participants formed teams of three and went through a screening stage where two open-ended questions were given. The answers were assessed and judged based on the originality, innovation, content and the complexity. Once they progressed to the semi-final, the qualified teams received a business case study 24 hours prior to the presentation day.

The case for HKCC 2014 is about how Procter & Gamble has built up its business system in China, the challenges it faces in expanding its position in China, and its strategy to focus more on emerging markets around the world. The semi-final was conducted in an elimination format where teams were split into two groups and will be required to carry out separate presentations. We then selected two teams from each group which would advance to the finals after they further improved their proposal.

Overall, HKCC 2014 was a success and it achieved much more than its objectives, as it engaged Malaysian students in Hong Kong and enhanced ICMS’ presence in Hong Kong.
