Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the answers to some questions we frequently get. For further enquiries on application, feel free to email us at recruitment@icmscholars.org

  • Someone who is a Malaysian citizen or permanent resident of Malaysia.
  • Someone who is currently pursuing a degree or equivalent in a University (Diploma/Professional Qualification/ Honours)
  • Someone who has completed their pre-university programme and is waiting for admission to undergraduate studies (will be enrolled in a year or less)

Unfortunately, we are only recruiting students from the countries we operate in. Which are Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, United Kingdom, North America (United States of America and Canada) and Australia.

No. As long as you are a scholar— a person who is or about to take up a full-time tertiary or post-tertiary education, you are welcomed to join.

Absolutely! ICMS is a place where we believe that leadership is a character trait and it is not solely based on prior experiences, but more so on the willingness to make mistakes, learn, and further develop your character. Be it in the way you handle workloads, collaborate with team members or display leadership. ICMS is the platform for you to explore what your career interests are and the nature of a professional role in an environment with like-minded peers.
Join us to experience and discover more about yourself.

You will apply to the Chapter your university is based in.

For example, if you are studying in North America and you are doing online classes in Malaysia, you will apply to the North America Chapter of ICMS.

Your application will be reviewed and if selected, you will go through an individual interview from our council members before joining ICMS as a Junior Associate (JA). You will go through the Junior Associate Development Program (JADP) and start your journey as an Associate or Director in ICMS.

For the full term, you will be committing to a total of 1 year and 3-months. Which is a 3-month Junior Associateship, followed by a 1-year Directorship/Associateship. By the end of your tenure, you will be part of the ICMS Alumni— a network of individuals who have gained valuable experience and made lasting connections through their involvement in ICMS.

As a JA, you will first join the Junior Associate Development Programme (JADP). This is an opportunity for you to understand how ICMS operates and prepare yourself for future roles as Associates and Directors. We want to ensure that you have the necessary support and guidance to succeed. Current council members will provide you with training to help you prepare for potential roles and you will be given tasks to familiarize yourself with ICMS operations. You are encouraged to participate in workshops curated by different divisions to gain the skills and knowledge needed for your associateship.

The amount of time you need to commit to ICMS depends on your role and your personal availability. However, we recommend an average of 6 hours per week for optimal engagement. At ICMS, we value personal growth and development and seek individuals who are motivated, committed, and willing to go the extra mile to be a part of our transformative journey.

As an ICMS Associate, you will collaborate with fellow council members from various divisions to run the council. You will get to dabble in various professional areas ranging from project management, crisis management, marketing, content creation and many many more.
To make the most of your tenure, consider joining Flagships and ICMS Academy initiatives and take on additional roles. These new roles allow you to meet Associates from other chapters, venture new job scopes, gain transferable skills, and contribute to the success of the council. In ICMS, we strive for excellence and making an impact on our target audience.

A director is someone who is the leader of a particular division. They oversee and manage the project and welfare of fellow Associates. Directorship applications will be announced after the completion of JADP. You are encouraged to collaborate well and make the most out of your junior associateship before going for Directorship applications. All Junior Associates will be given equal opportunity to apply for the position of their choice. Further details will be provided during that time.

Flagships are mini-projects within the ICMS Council led by Project Directors (PDs). They run for a few months before the event execution and currently, there are three (3) portfolios: MPPC, ICMS Academy and I2. These portfolios all serve a purpose for the ICMS brand. Joining Flagships allows you to work with Associates from different chapters, take on new seasonal tasks and responsibilities, and gain more experience beyond your Chapter’s divisional role.

Click the ‘Apply Now‘ button and you will be led to the application form. We review every application carefully, so you can expect results in a few weeks. From there we will schedule you for the 2nd round of selection — the individual interview. Our recruitment season for the next council is September to October every year.

You can check out our social media pages and websites or reach out to current council members— you can find their information from ‘The Team’ page to learn more about their experiences and gain insights on what it is really like to be a part of ICMS. Attending information sessions and events during the recruitment season will also give you a better understanding of our culture, values, and initiatives.
