Partners

Our Partners provide support towards the establishment of events of ICMS.

Jeffrey Cheah Foundation

The Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF) is founded on the fundamental premise of giving to society, a philosophy that has governed the Sunway Education Trust Fund since its inception in 1997. Through the unique not-for-profit structure of the Foundation, operating surpluses are ploughed back into the institutions or disbursed as scholarships, research grants and expansion of faculty and facilities to ensure quality education in perpetuity.

In 2010, the Sunway Education Trust Fund was officially converted into the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation where the equity of Sunway Education Group’s learning institutions worth more than RM1 billion today was transferred to the Foundation, making it the largest education-focused social enterprise in Malaysia with 16 institutions and entities. Sunway Education Group is owned and governed by the JCF with its creed – “Nurturing the seeds of wisdom.”

JCF is governed by a distinguished board of 110 trustees with His Royal Highness Sultan of Selangor as its Royal Patron. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Jeffrey Cheah AO is the Founding Trustee of the eponymous foundation.

JCF has established partnership with the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), led by Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs. The partnership constituted a USD $10m endowment, funded the establishment of the Jeffrey Sachs Center (JSC) on Sustainable Development at Sunway University. JSC is a regional center of excellence for research and policy practice, creating world-class programmes to train a new generation of students, practitioners and policy leaders; and develop linkages with major Malaysian and international universities in joint problem-solving around the Sustainable Development Goals. The commitment towards sustainability has led Sunway City Kuala Lumpur housing the SDSN Center for Asia, joining New York City and Paris as the three United Nations SDSN centers in the world to coordinate continent-wide sustainability initiatives.

Over the years, the Foundation has also forged academic ties with some of the world’s most renowned institutions in including Harvard University, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Monash University, Lancaster University and Le Cordon Bleu, allowing two-way flow of scholars and researchers between Sunway Education Group and the world-class institutions in developing and improving the academic standards of teaching and research in Malaysia. JCF also collaborated with Sunway Medical Centre to establish the Sunway Clinical Research Centre, which is a Regional Site Partner of the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine.

In 2019, JCF established the Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali Scholarship for Creative Arts & Music worth RM10 million. The scholarship aims to attract and recognise outstanding Malaysian talents who desire to pursue a career in creative arts and music. It seeks out scholars who demonstrate the potential to become professional, committed to sharing their knowledge and contributing back to the nation.

In February 2020, JCF signed a Gift Memorandum with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to support a career development professorship in its School of Engineering. Preference shall be given to junior faculty with research and teaching interests in any of the following fields: Cybersecurity; Phase change materials; Photovoltaic materials; Energy storage; or Virus and vaccine research. Each holder of the professorship will be known as the Jeffrey Cheah Career Development Professor.

In 2020, JCF celebrated its 10th year anniversary and till date the Foundation has disbursed in excess of RM482 million in scholarships to thousands of deserving students. It is Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah’s personal goal to award RM1 billion worth of scholarships in his lifetime.

Silver Sponsor: Shell

Shell has been a partner in fuelling Malaysia’s progress for over 125 years. Our journey with the nation is intertwined – in as much as Shell has played a role in growing the country’s energy sector, Malaysia has also played a significant role in the company’s progress.

Our business has diversified from a modest kerosene venture to a group of companies engaged in every aspect of the modern oil and gas business.

Today, Shell maintains a strong multi-faceted presence in the country through our longer-term investments, innovation-sharing, and impact to local communities.

We helped pioneer Malaysia’s oil and gas industry and fuelled its growth. We discovered Malaysia’s first oil onshore, then took the industry offshore, and most recently into the technically-challenging depths of Deepwater.

Shell’s strong retail network fuels the journeys of millions of Malaysian motorists every day. In fact, Shell is even able to offer one of the most differentiated fuel and lubricant products, some of which were pioneered right here in the country.

We fuelled the ambitions of Malaysians: whether the generations of retail business partners; thousands of Shell scholars over the years; young entrepreneurs from our LiveWire programme; or Shell staff and alumni who are Malaysian luminaries today.

Shell continues to be one of the top employers in Malaysia with thousands employed in our upstream, midstream and downstream businesses, as well as in our service and support functions.
