ICAEW Malaysia Regional Business Challenge 2018

Event Description: The purpose of this events is to look for business leaders of the future! ICAEW Malaysia Regional Business Challenge 2018 – Qualifying Heats is a unique platform for students to unveil their talent. An event open only to penultimate and final year university students as well as A-Level and STPM students, we looked for 60 teams to participate in this exhilarating challenge, a chance for students to showcase their skills and aptitude. This was also an excellent way to be talent spotted by participating employers and sponsors of the event to gain career or internship opportunities.
Forming a team of 6 members, students get to compete with the best in Malaysia. A total of RM15,000 is up for grabs in the ICAEW Regional Business Challenge, Malaysia Heats. The top 2 winning teams will go on to compete at the South-East Asia Business Challenge in Jakarta in May, to pit their skills with teams from six countries in the region.

MPPC Workshop Series 1: Public Policy 101

Event Description:Over the years, the MPPC team has received feedback that there has been a lack of awareness among Malaysian students on what Public Policy actually is. Hence, in collaboration with the Centre for Public Policy Studies (CPPS), the MPPC team proudly presents the Public Policy 101 workshop. This workshop provided attendees with an opportunity to understand the processes of public policy making and learn how to put together strong public policy proposals that will lead to positive impacts in society. This workshop was open to all Malaysian students studying at any local and foreign institutions, and any courses of study.
Maybank - ICMS: Decode Disrupt Define

Event Description: Through Maybank-ICMS 2018: Decode. Disrupt. Define, Maybank and ICMS hope to impart invaluable knowledge regarding the disruption in the banking industry that exists in our world today. Maybank provides a platform for participants to develop their career in the banking industry by setting up a stage for them to do personality tests and having and exclusive career session with the senior management of Maybank.
This event also offers the opportunity to understand the nature and challenges of the banking industry better through mind-bending case simulation where they had the chance to decode, disrupt and define the future of banking. The case study revolves around how a Bank or a Fintech company could gain competitive advantage over the other despite the various disruption happening in the banking industry. The groups then had to pitch to the Maybank Apprentices on why their group should have the licensing rights to operate – whether it be Bank or Fintech Company.

Unilever-ICMS Roundtable: Unilever Food Solutions
Event Details Date: 1st December 2017 Venue: Monash University, Malaysia Event Description On the 1st of December 2017, Unilever-ICMS Roundtable brought upon a refreshing experience to its participants who hailed from all over Malaysia. UFS continues to inspire people to cook smart and encourage companies to enhance their values. Carrying the motto “We free chefs to do what they love to do”, UFS is serving around 2 million consumers on daily basis. Frederick, the National Sale Manager of UFS, emphasised the value of UFS which is creativity and strives to come up with creative products and servings. The event reached its peak at 10.30am when the UFS Dipping Sauce Challenge began. Participants, in their own groups, were required to create a dipping sauce for carrots, potato chips and biscuits within 30 minutes. In the end, Team 3 and Team Justice League had secured the top spots with their mouth-watering sauces. The judges remarked that each team had indeed done a remarkable job and were impressed by the variety of pitching ideas. At noon, Unilever Ambassador, Yi Ling invited the participants to apply for their Future Leaders League programme, which was targeted to those who are looking out for internship and graduate employment opportunities. The day ended with a photo-taking session and, needless to say, a joyful lunch.
MSGA Summit: A Parallel Session

ICMS hosted a parallel session alongside the World Bank during the inaugural Malaysian Students’ Global Alliance (MSGA) Summit. The session aimed to promote Sustainable Economic Development. Dr. Young Eun Kim, the World Bank representative, spoke on quantifying the productivity of a nation: highlighting five different drivers of productivity including innovation, education, efficiency, infrastructure, and institutions. Malaysia is above average among global upper middle-income groups for median total factor productivity. Dr. Young called for all who strive for a more sustainable future to constantly evaluate their best possible version of society, and use any means available to achieve that vision. The adoption of such a mindset allows for fruitful and creative thinking regardless of sector or interest in a sustainable future – a future where economic prosperity and sustainability will be addressed from all angles.
Unilever-ICMS : Journey into Digital Hiring 2017
Event Details Date: 01.04.2017 Venue: Monash University, Jalan Lagoon Selatan, Bandar Sunway, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor Event Description ICMS MY Chapter collaborated with Unilever-ICMS : Journey into Digital Hiring event. This is where students from all over the country gathered to gain first-hand knowledge of the revolutionary digital hiring process currently practised by Unilever for its Unilever Future Leaders Programme (UFLP). During this event, the speakers shared their personal career insights in Unilever and comprehensively briefed the participants on the new digital hiring procedure. The professional albeit casual setting provided us with a chance to comprehensively understand the inner workings of the company and served as a fun, innovative way for participants to connect with the top leaders in Unilever.
PwC-ICMS Roundtable: Taxploration
Date: 9th December 2017 Venue: PwC, Malaysia Event Description The annual PwC – ICMS Roundtable happened on the 9th of December, organised by the Junior Associates of the 8th Council. The day started off with an interesting icebreaker where participants were given a sticky note to write down three adjectives describing themselves on one side, and asked a partner to put down an adjective on the other side after the delivery of an elevator pitch. Soon after, the Executive Director of HR at PwC Malaysia, Ms. Sherriza started by first defining what ‘personal branding’ is and what is expected of an effective elevator pitch. 6 participants were selected to apply the learnings where she commented that it is important to keep the pitch short, concise and to include adjectives that articulate our personality. Next, Mr. Kent, the Assistant Manager of HR and Ms. Adeline also shared tips on submitting applications and preparing for interviews. Participants were active in asking questions with the recruiters. Following that, an interactive mock interview section was hosted by Ms. Sherriza for participants to apply STAR techniques in competencies-based interviews scenarios. Let’s Get Personal with PwC ended off with a photo-taking and lunch networking section. To end with, we would like to express our appreciation to the organizing committee and PwC Malaysia for the success.
Axiata-ICMS Roundtable 2017
Event Details Date: 14.10.2017 Venue: Axiata Tower, Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station, Kuala Lumpur Event Description On October 14th, ICMS was honoured to collaborate with Axiata on ‘Axiata: A Roundtable On Advancing Asia’. Held at Axiata Tower in Kuala Lumpur, 66 participants from various academic backgrounds attended the much-anticipated event to gain invaluable insights from one of Asia’s largest telecommunications group. Participants were also given the opportunity to network with Axiata’s top leaders. This year, the roundtable session focused on how Axiata is playing its role in advancing Malaysia further into the digital era through the Axiata Young Talent Programme (AYTP). Throughout the day, three workshops were conducted which centred on the AYTP, communication skills and business models. The final session required the participants to work on a case study and present their solutions in the form of a business model using the methods taught by the facilitators earlier in the day, The winning team who represented ‘GrabCar’ went home with exclusive prizes from Axiata.
ICAEW Regional Business Challenge 2017

The Champion and Runner-up teams represented Malaysia to compete in the Grand Final on Friday, 19 May 2017, with winning teams from Singapore, Vietnam and Indonesia.
Maybank Career Cracker
Event Details Date: 21.01.2017 Venue: Menara Maybank Event Description Comprising of personality tests, career workshops and stimulating case studies, the Maybank Career Cracker created a platform for students to discover career pathways that adhere to their individual personalities. Acknowledging the suitability of different personalities in different career roles, 74 participants who underwent personality tests prior to the event were sorted into 5 main personality types including the Banking Whiz, Affable artist, Legal Litigator, Tech Star and the Renaissance Man. The 5 groups were joined by Maybank Apprentices who helped analyse and discuss possible career paths for each personality type. Participants also gained opportunities to engage in conversations with top leaders of Maybank who provided valuable insights pertaining to topics such as Human Resources, Digital Banking, Risk, and Technology. The highlight of the event was a case study session comprising of interactive simulations, where participants were challenged to manage crises, negotiate with different stakeholders and propose solutions to alleviate conflicts.

Professional etiquette is of great importance in today’s business world as it enables the exhibit of a polished image and establishes confidence. As such, ICMS’ partners EY extended exclusive invitations to 36 7th Council Junior Associates from the MY Chapter to attend a professional etiquette workshop at Menara Millenium. The workshop was conducted by Ms Lee Soo Fern (Talent Leader of EY Malaysia), who shared some golden rules to dressing professionally in various settings as well as proper networking etiquette. She highlighted the 3 keys to manage branding and impressions, including authenticity, professionalism, and awareness. Participants also learned about etiquette in the workplace as well, which meant the proper conduct when using communication platforms such as e-mails and other messaging applications at work. Apart from greatly benefitting from the workshop, participants were also briefly introduced to the operations and career opportunities in EY, who is also a global leader in professional services.
PwC-ICMS Preview Workshop 2016

Having a splendid CV and acing an interview would greatly amplify the chances of landing a job. Through the PwC-ICMS Preview Workshop, 80 shortlisted participants caught a glimpse of what’s inside the recruiter’s mind during the hiring process. The workshop started an exercise which highlighted the power of first impressions that only take about 7 seconds to build. The recruiters of PwC went on to share tips and tricks that can help participants portray a professional image both online and in person, as well as techniques that can be used when articulating their personal experiences during interviews. This includes STAR method, a structured method to answer interview questions by addressing the Situation, Task, Action, and Result of a situation.
ICMS-Axiata Roundtable 2016

In collaboration with our sponsor – Axiata, we conducted our first roundtable event of the term that gathered 35 students from various academic backgrounds to learn about the operations at Axiata and gain insights on the telecommunications industry. Participants were welcomed by Datin Sri Badrunissa Mohd Yasin Khan, the Group Chief Talent Officer of Axiata Group, who shared her work experiences and the exciting talent development programmes that Axiata offers, including the University Leaders Development Programme and the Young CEO Development Programme. Participants also learned to present their business ideas on the Business Model Canvas, with high-performing teams subsequently awarded with attractive prizes. The event ended with a networking session where participants had the opportunity to engage with the leaders of Axiata.
Sunway Start-It Challenge

Sunway Group in collaboration with Sunway Education Group is organizing an innovation challenge, called the Sunway Start-It Challenge. The challenge is sponsored by CPA Australia, KPMG and Sunway Medical Centre. The challenge will span across three weekends in August, starting from 6th August with a series of workshops and Innovation Sessions, followed by The Innovation Pitch. Candidates whose ideas are chosen in the Pitch will make it through the Innovation Camp on the 26th to 27th August whereby they’ll be presenting their FINAL ideas to the panelists on the 28th August.
ICAEW Regional Business Challenge
Venue: Nexus Connexion, Bangsar South
The second installment of the ICAEW Regional Business Challenge saw the growth from 26 competing teams back in 2015 to 30 teams of undergraduate students from Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia and 150 attendees. Teams presented their solutions to a business case to corporate leaders from various industries in the first round. Five outstanding teams then gained the opportunity to deal out in a quiz battle. In the end, the winning team walked away with an all-expenses paid trip to visit the ICAEW Headquarters in London. Participants from various teams also managed to secure internship positions with the prestigious ICAEW Authorised Training Employers
Shell-ICMS Ideas360 Mini Competition 2015

Shell Ideas360 is a global competition designed to inspire innovation and nurture participants’ ideas in tackling the pressures on Food, Water, and Energy resources. In collaboration with Shell, ICMS introduced the Shell-ICMS Ideas360 Mini-Competition, which was an abridged version of the main Shell Ideas360 global competition and to groom more young creative talents. This mini-competition was opened exclusively to ICMS Associates from different chapters. Apart from the competition, Shell also organised a critical thinking workshop which was aimed to test and develop the participants’ critical thinking skills which would be extremely beneficial in their future.
The ICAEW Regional Business Challenge 2015
Venue: Nexus Connexion, Bangsar South
The first ever ICAEW Regional Business Challenge, executed by ICMS MY and held within South East Asia, was participated by 144 penultimate or final year students coming from Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia. The competition comprised of 2 stages, whereby in the first stage was a case study competition whereas the second stage was a general knowledge competition organised in a game-show style. The best four out of 24 teams were called upon a stage to battle out their general knowledge skills. Winners were awarded employment or internship opportunities with prestigious Authorised Training Employers (ATE) while the overall champion won a 4D3N trip to visit ICAEW Chartered Accountants’ Hall in London. ICMS-Unilever Roundtable 2015
The Link : Beyond the Distance

To facilitate Malaysian scholars in fortifying their basics and hone their skills in professional networking, PDI of ICMS MY introduced The Link to ICMS MY associates and students from other Malaysian institutes as well. The Link sets the stage for intellectuals of various backgrounds to share their challenges and successes in becoming who they are today through the power of networking, and to provide an opportunity for participants to network with them in a professional setting. Participants took turns to leverage on the speakers’ insights during a Q&A session held at the end of each speech conducted. The day concluded with refreshments and a toned down environment where participants and speakers chatted amongst each other, exchanging ideas and practising the art of networking.
